The 2013 ABS BeautyBASH 2013 - Talent, Prizes and a Good Time!
The second annual ABS BeautyBASH was held Saturday, March 9th from 6:30-9:30 p.m. on the ABS Runway stage at McCormick Place, Chicago.
The first BeautyBASH in 2012 celebrated the 100th Anniversary of Cosmetologists Chicago, owners and producers of America’s Beauty Show and the 50th Anniversary of the founding of Pivot Point International, a Chicagoland educational institution.
The 2013 BeautyBASH celebrated the amazing talent of beauty professionals—whether behind the chair, prepping in front of the camera or on stage showing off performance talents ranging from ballet to Broadway to classical cello. The new talent element to the party that kicked off America’s Beauty Show was the ABS Beauty Talent Showcase, which featured multi-talented salon pros who sang, danced and played their way into the hearts of all attending.

As Cosmetologists Chicago, which owns and produces America’s Beauty Show, is composed of working salon professional members, it seemed natural that CC would want to show the world the talents that lie in the beauty industry. The Talent Showcase concept came from Cosmetologists Chicago knowing that so many salon professionals have performance talents in addition to their beauty services skills. What better place to share them than on the Runway stage at ABS?
Seven talented salon pros were selected to perform on stage during the BeautyBASH. Each submitted a video via YouTube that was judged by performance experts.
As this was simply a Talent Showcase, they were ALL winners! Here was the line up:
- Stephanie Jarrin, Oswego, IL, R&B singer
- Samantha Gribble, Chicago, IL classical cellist
- Katherine Lanave, Howell, MI, ballet dancer
- Kim Shriver, Cary, IL, Broadway-style singer
- Marie Therese Messuck, Itasca, IL, pop singer
- Krystal Gardner, Muskegan, MI, singer & guitarist
- Nicole Sellers, Naperville, IL, singer
STARS and RISING STARS Awarded
The top winners of Cosmetologists Chicago STARS and Rising STARS photo contests for professionals and students, along with the Leo Passage Gold Trophy, were awarded cash prizes and trophies, in a fast-paced, entertaining evening that brought out all the stars and educators of ABS and attendees from around the country. Dozens of stylists entered the STARS competitions; only a few winners were announced to great fanfare at the BeautyBASH.
In addition, the evening featured a salute to the fondly remembered showmanship of the inimitable Xenon by Yolly ten Koppel of Pivot Point. “Xenon: Reimagined” combined a retrospective of Xenon’s work over 30 years in the industry, along with a modern interpretation of his classic, yet glamorous, style.
All that show biz was followed with more partying and dancing to a live band and a chance to meet and greet friends old and new.
All proceeds from ABS BeautyBASH benefits the CC Presidents Scholarship Fund that annually awards cash scholarships for advanced education.
