Workshop where attendees will demo and duplicate the technique with products provided. Attendees need to bring a model who is a woman of color along with their personal supply of makeup brushes.
• The importance of makeup artistry as it relates to women of color is of vital importance as a beauty industry professional. Understanding basic makeup application for women with more or less melanin is key
• The ability to create a clean beauty look is an integral part of our repertoire as Makeup Artists
• This class is a workshop where attendees also work on models while learning step-by-step technique in creating clean makeup for global skin tones
BIO: Jalia Pettis describes herself as a “Fashionpreneur” and a woman who wears many hats: Daughter, Sister, Mother, Friend, Manager & Make-Up Artist. At the age of four she was first introduced to the entertainment industry. Jalía attended various modeling schools and was signed to a local agency as an adolescent, which kick started her career. Jalía was also a “military brat” and had the pleasure of traveling to exotic places such as Japan and Hawaii. In 1995 she returned to her hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan and attended Western Michigan University where she studied Interpersonal Communications & Business Management.
In 1999 she began her corporate career as a Human Resources Professional and quickly moved up the ranks into management, then became a Certified Trainer. In 2006 she began 3Jay Productions which caters to those in the fashion and beauty industries offering a broad range of services to include brand management, art direction, public relations and a glam team. The following year in 2007, 3Jay Productions started the annual event entitled the Style Exhibition which was awarded a proclamation as the premiere fashion event of Columbia, SC and is now a traveling showcase. In 2008, she launched her freelance make-up artistry career which is now registered under her name using #IAmMyBrand.
In 2014 she returned to school to study Esthetics and graduated at the top of her class. In 2015 she became a licensed esthetician and was also recognized by the Professional Beauty Association as a Beacon Award™ recipient. In addition, she is also the Beauty Editor for a style blog called “Fashion to Fit You.” Jalía is also a proud mother of three children and currently resides in Phoenix, AZ.
