Elevate your skin prep and makeup application outside of just the basics.  Celebrity makeup artist and owner of City Lights Makeup Artistry and Hair Design, Paula Heckenast,  will help you master techniques to showcase your clients’ beauty like a real pro. Learn versatile looks that are great for weddings, gala/black tie, red carpet, photo shoots, television appearances,  or any other event to make your guest stand out above the rest, on and off camera. This will be an interactive class meaning each class will be slightly different. The lessons will be customized to what YOU want to learn set in a great party like atmosphere with live music sponsored by Epic DJ Services, a photobooth by Bedhead Boudoir Photography and much more! You'll Learn:  

• Proper skin preparation tailored to your guest.  Skin prep is often neglected, but it is the most important step in building the foundation for a flawless application. 
• Receive a full preparation guide outline for your client to optimize their skin BEFORE they get into your chair to make your session easier and more efficient. 
• Looks that will take your client to the next level both in person and in front of the camera lens with minimal need for touch ups. 
• Proper expert blending techniques to optimize your performance for remarkable results using both airbrush and traditional makeup. 
• Master your mistakes. There are some very common mistakes in makeup that are easier to fix than most would think. You will learn how not to lose time when these mistakes occur and utilize them to your advantage.

Workshop where attendees will demo and duplicate the technique with products provided. Attendees need to bring a model who is a woman of color along with their personal supply of makeup brushes.

• The importance of makeup artistry as it relates to women of color is of vital importance as a beauty industry professional. Understanding basic makeup application for women with more or less melanin is key
• ​The ability to create a clean beauty look is an integral part of our repertoire as Makeup Artists
• This class is a workshop where attendees also work on models while learning step-by-step technique in creating clean makeup for global skin tones

BIO: Jalia Pettis describes herself as a “Fashionpreneur” and a woman who wears many hats: Daughter, Sister, Mother, Friend, Manager & Make-Up Artist. At the age of four she was first introduced to the entertainment industry. Jalía attended various modeling schools and was signed to a local agency as an adolescent, which kick started her career. Jalía was also a “military brat” and had the pleasure of traveling to exotic places such as Japan and Hawaii. In 1995 she returned to her hometown of Kalamazoo, Michigan and attended Western Michigan University where she studied Interpersonal Communications & Business Management.

In 1999 she began her corporate career as a Human Resources Professional and quickly moved up the ranks into management, then became a Certified Trainer. In 2006 she began 3Jay Productions which caters to those in the fashion and beauty industries offering a broad range of services to include brand management, art direction, public relations and a glam team. The following year in 2007, 3Jay Productions started the annual event entitled the Style Exhibition which was awarded a proclamation as the premiere fashion event of Columbia, SC and is now a traveling showcase. In 2008, she launched her freelance make-up artistry career which is now registered under her name using #IAmMyBrand.

In 2014 she returned to school to study Esthetics and graduated at the top of her class. In 2015 she became a licensed esthetician and was also recognized by the Professional Beauty Association as a Beacon Award™ recipient. In addition, she is also the Beauty Editor for a style blog called “Fashion to Fit You.” Jalía is also a proud mother of three children and currently resides in Phoenix, AZ.
