Oscar Bond

Oscar Bond began his career as an industry educator at the esteemed Vidal Sassoon Academy in London, where he was a member of the International Artistic and Show Team for Sassoon before taking the big leap to independence in 1987.

His mastery of the craft and gift for teaching has taken him all over the world for the past 25 years. He joined the Aveda Artistic Style Council and was appointed as Head of Education for the Aveda Institute in New York - Soho.

He has been featured in such magazines as In Style, Mademoiselle, Jane, Marie Clare, Self, GQ, Details, YM, Soho Style, Time Out, and Vogue, and his salon was voted one of New York City's Top Ten Salons in the October 1999 Issue of Salon News. In addition, his work was highlighted on ABC's The View and MTV's Making The Band. The salon has also been featured on Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Teen Vogue, Color & Style Magazine, and The Wall Street Journal. His strong connection to the fashion world, mastery of cutting, and passion to adapt to the ever-changing eye of style define his illustrious career.

  Cole Thompson 
Hattori Hanzo Shears 

International Creative Director, and founder of Elevation H, Cole Thompson started his career in independent salons around the Manchester, England area before beginning work for Vidal Sassoon in 2003 where he quickly became one of Vidal Sassoon’s youngest “Creative Directors”. He also became an expert consultant as he developed programs to help clients grow and improve school curriculums, business and salon management and structure, client growth, assistant training programs, and more.

Cole has also worked on developing collections, has directed and run photo shoots, and, has even appeared in a Vidal Sassoon TV commercial as a “Salon Genius.” Cole continues spreading his expansive knowledge to hair professionals of all levels all around the world, this time through Elevation H — the art, technique, and business of hair. Cole’s passion for educating is evident in his work as he continues to help others strive for excellence in all areas of the industry.

Justin Thomas is a platform artist and educator with Hattori Hanzo Shears.

Justin has been referred to as the "Prodigy" by his peers in the industry. His refined style and countless hours of training & collaboration with some of the biggest names in hairdressing have gained him much notoriety. Identifiable under the alias, “Popular Nobody” (which also stands as the trademarked name for his line of apparel and accessories) John Mosley also happens to be one of the most sought-after barbers in the industry. He also runs the "Renaissance Man" deck of talent.

With 14 years of passion and experience, John’s career has been on a steady incline of watching his dreams unfold and his hard work, insatiable drive, and an unstoppable tenacity for his craft have enabled him to not only keep his chair full with a constant rotation of devoted clientele, but his thirst for what’s new continues to keep his technical skills a cut above the rest.

Eminem and Rihanna’s acclaimed “Monster Tour”, Music Midtown, and Austin City Limits can all add John’s individualized aesthetics to their on-stage resumes. His list of superstar patrons also includes Larenz Tate, Idrs Elba, and one of the most talked about names in the music industry today: Kendrick Lamar. No stranger to the athletic world, John also works with the NFLPA and the Washington Nationals baseball team.

   Erick Lander
British Barbers Association

Erik has over 30 years of experience within the hairdressing and barbering industry. He is a standing member of the Habia Skill Team, and their current Education Director. Erik is the longest standing guest artist for Goldwell UK, delivering both men’s and ladies cutting courses in their London academy and around Britain.

Erik has had his own training college, ‘Erik Lander Education’ for over 20 years His passion for imparting in-depth education to the highest possible level and his teaching techniques include breaking the skills down to ensure clear understanding of all aspects of the techniques. Erik’s philosophy is “it’s all in the detail”.

Erik became the first person in Britain to achieve the new VTCT L4 Male Grooming and L4 Ladies Styling qualifications. He also became the first hairdresser in Britain to achieve the Master Craftsman award in both ladies and gents hairdressing. He specializes in barbering and razor cutting for men and women. Erik still works in the salon 3 days a week and has a regular clientele.

  Gary Machin 
British Barber Association

Gary has been a working barber for 30 plus years and his career started at the age of 13 as a Saturday lad in the family barbering business, established 1967 as a third generation barber. Once fully qualified after working his way to becoming assistant manager he opened his own shop in 1991 and took on a staff of his own.

His business has grown into a successful group of 6 barber shops, with 27 staff. In 1993, he developed a teaching program with evening courses at a local college which has had run for 9 years. During that time, he was then invited by Habia to sit on the standards review board to give advice on setting up the 1st barbering NVQ qualifications. 

He is currently one of the top educators for the Habia Skill Team on the level 4 Male grooming qualification which takes him around the UK & Ireland. He recently has showcased his traditional barbering / shaving skills and judged the final UEA Best Barber held at the BeautyWorld Middle East in Dubai. 

He was elected the1st Barber Council Chairman and has held this position since 2014. Gary looks forward to sharing his thoughts, experience and advice for the good of our industry.

 

Sofie Pok

Sofie "StayGold" Pok is a barber stylist from Los Angeles. Raised in Orange County, Sofie currently lives and works in LA and is known for attention to detail in short hairstyles. She's one of the International Educators for Babyliss Pro, educating stylists and barbers across the nation and sharing her techniques to build a strong foundation with clipper cutting. You can find her published in many magazines highlighting her career as a strong female barber.  Her work has been widely noticed over her Instagram page (@staygold31) promoting education, techniques, high definition edits of hairstyles and videos.

 

Over the past decade, her goal has remained the same: to fuse her knowledge of barbering and cosmetology and serve as a source of inspiration for others in the field. In her spare time, Sofie enjoys photography and videography and has found a way to mesh her love for barbering with the art of visual media. Sofie was awarded the 2017 Female Barber of the Year by Barbercon, Men’s Shot of the Year by Behind The Chair, and most recently, Barber of the Year at the American Influencer Awards.


 

Charlie Price

 

Charlie Price is one of the most recognizable faces in the North American salon industry. His performances as a popular platform artist and educator are filled with smart soundbites, useful information and quick easy techniques for the salon, all delivered in his fun irreverent style.

Charlie has had his photo work published worldwide and has collaborated with Haircare manufacturers such as Aveda, Revlon Professional, TIGI, Roux, Rusk and now he is the International Creative Consultant for Scruples Haircare. Price is also known for having won many industry awards.  He is a two time NAHA North American Hairstylist of the Year award winner in 2002 and 2008 (the first American to do so), the first ever NAHA People’s Choice award winner in 2011 (he has a career total of 25 NAHA nominations) and he was named Canadian Mirror Awards International Hairstylist of the Year in 2007 (a title which he has been nominated for 6 times).  


  Dr. Alan J. Bauman,MD 

Dr. Alan J. Bauman, MD, ABHRS is a diplomate of the American Board of Hair Restoration Surgery. For over 20 years, as a Board-Certified Hair Restoration Specialist Dr. Bauman has helped nearly 20,000 patients who have been affected by unwanted hair thinning and hair loss problems. Dr. Bauman has been featured extensively in the world’s leading mass media as a top medical hair loss expert in the treatment of hair loss and was recently named North America’s “#1 Top Hair Restoration Surgeon” by Aesthetic Everything. Dr. Bauman is the first-ever hair transplant surgeon to be formally accepted as an Intercoiffure Industry Partner and has taught at Orlando Premiere as well as presented on the mainstage at Intercoiffure and HAIR+ Summit by Modern Salon. He is also an Advisory Board Member for the World Trichology Society.    Andrew Carruthers

Andrew Carruthers’ career as a hairdresser has been extremely diverse. Fueled by over 17 years of full time work in a salon, his experience also includes salon ownership, photographic work, as well as personal and professional coaching.

As an educator, Andrew has worked for many national cosmetology brands and is currently the Education Director for Sam Villa®, a brand that provides a wide variety of both online and live education.

 

From small hands-on classes to large stages, his love for supporting others personal growth and sharing his discoveries has been a passion since the early days of his career. Primarily focusing on women’s and men’s haircutting and finishing, his approach to education is all about connecting with the everyday hairdresser and offering them the tools necessary to build a fulfilling and long-lasting career.

Jesse identifies with hairdressers who work full-time behind the chair - because he is one himself - and he promotes education that develops a diversified skill set necessary for their success.

Linares studies traditional Japanese martial arts, and he applies many concepts from his training to his hair world and education. "Constant attention to your personal training is essential to growth," he states. "Doing hair is a craft job that takes decades of daily work to truly master. Don't be in such a hurry, and enjoy your work!" Jesse believes that a hairdresser's career cannot be measured in profit and loss, but rather in how much of themselves they gave to their work. "Every haircut, every color, every style is a chance to prove what you are made of."

Like the entire Sam Villa team, Jesse approaches education differently to add value for stylists. He delivers programs that are upbeat and motivating – with an emphasis on personal integrity and skill excellence. Linares has dedicated his career to helping stylists translate education into success behind the chair. "The moment I met Sam Villa, I knew I would one day work with him.    Richie Riveria

North American Color Director, Richie Rivera started his Sassoon career at Sassoon Academy in Santa Monica, CA in 1992. He then went on to complete his Sassoon Salon apprenticeship in Boston in 1993, where he has been based for the last 19 years. During Richie’s time in this Sassoon, he worked as Salon Color Director, until being named East Coast Regional Color Director in 2009. Then, in April 2012, Richie earned the prestigious role of North American Color Director.

   Traci Sakosits
Sassoon Academy
North American Creative Director, Traci Sakosits started her training at Sassoon in New York in 1992, where her talents were soon recognized and she moved swiftly up the ranks. She transferred to the Beverly Hills Salon as a stylist in 1994 and was promoted to Assistant Creative Director two years later. The call to teach came quickly, and Traci then moved to the Los Angeles Academy in 1997, where she has been based for the last 15 years. While in Los Angeles, she earned the roles of Creative Director and Regional Creative Director, before being appointed the role of North American Creative Director in April 2012 as a result of her passion and dedication to Sassoon

  Travis Smith
Sassoon Academy 

Travis decided to join the Sassoon Team after eight years in the industry, where he collaborated with other educators, built a loyal client base and earned an Art Director position.  He started his Sassoon Varderer trainging at the Beverly Hills Salon in 2012.  He spent a year and a half learning Sassoon techniques and accepted a position at the Santa Monica Academy in July 2013.  In 2014, Travis relocated to the Chicago Academy, where he is the Lead Instructor.

   Damien Carney  

Damien Carney is one of the most accomplished hairstylists in the last 20 years, Carney has elevated hairstyling into an art form through an impressive body of work.

With a keen eye for detail and the ability to showcase a person's natural assets, Carney has amassed a portfolio reflecting a virtual "Who's Who" in fashion and beauty. Music and film stars such as Ryan Gosling, Grace Jone, Olivia Munn, are just a few of the "A - List" celebrities and models who turned to Carney to create their image-defining hairstyles.

 

In a career woven with honors and accolades, Carney's high notes include being voted one of Modern Salon Magazine's "50 Influential Hairdressers - Trendsetters" in 2008. He was a finalist in the 2007 NAHA Award category of "Contemporary Classic" and received considerable world press as winner of the British Hairdressing Award, "Men's Hairdresser of the Year." He was pronounced "International Stylist of the Year" at the 2012 Mirror Awards, produced by Canadian Hairdresser Magazine.

 

A much sought after artistic leader, Damien is currently serving as Creative Director for Schwarzkopf Professional North America where he oversees the creative content and image for the brand.  In this new prestige position, Damien also leads other passionate artists in technical precision and continues to inspire growth through knowledge. Russell Cordeiro is an accomplished hairstylist known for his unique and accessible approach to haircutting and education. He is the Artistic Director of Karg Inc., founding member of Art + Autonomy Salon in NYC and Barber at Persons of Interest Barbershop in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Russell’s years of training and experience behind the chair have led to these roles as well as opportunities to educate and present at respected industry events and hair salons around the country.    Mike Karg  

Passionate and driven, Mike Karg has been ahead of the curve for the past 30 years. A pioneer in the art of dry haircutting, he was one of the first bi-coastal stylists, splitting his time between New York and L.A. where he tended to the locks of celebrities like Sharon Stone and Marisa Tomei, styled hair for music videos and fashion magazines, worked backstage at New York Fashion Week with designers like Todd Oldham and

Hugo Boss, and appeared on platform for Wella and Goldwell. Since American

Nicknamed ‘The Balay Lama®’, Candy literally grew up in the beauty business as the daughter of Jamison Shaw, a former world-champion competition hairdresser, and professional make-up artist Sara Shaw. Candy’s been a hairdresser and educator all her adult life with over 35 years’ experience/ Candy owns Jamison Shaw Hairdressers®, a fifty-year-young, 5,000 square-foot, 50-chair salon in Atlanta, Georgia. Candy still works ‘behind the chair’ and with the aid of between four and six assistants sees up to 35 guests each day.

Candy is regarded as the world’s foremost authority on balayage education. She founded The Academy at Jamison Shaw, an advanced training facility teaching French Cutting and Balayage Highlighting, more than twenty years ago.

Candy serves on the Board of Directors of Intercoiffure America-Canada, the world’s most prestigious international salon organization, and is also the New Member Chair. Candy is a past recipient of Intercoiffure’s ‘Award of Excellence’ and was named ‘Personality of the Year’ by Intercoiffure Mondial in Paris.

   Eva Scrivo


Eva Scrivo is a multi-faceted artist who owns of two eponymous New York City salons. She is the award-winning author of Eva Scrivo on Beauty: The Tools, Techniques, and Insider Knowledge Every Woman Needs to Be Her Most Beautiful, Confident Self (Atria Books), as well as a television and radio personality. Eva is regarded as one of the industry’s premier educators and experts in hair coloring and cutting. She is a pioneer of modern free-hand highlighting and is known internationally for her color designs, particularly for her Balayage artistry and proprietary hand-painting techniques. Her work has been featured on numerous television shows, has graced the covers of top beauty and fashion publications, and has adorned the heads of celebrities, socialites, and countless blonde bombshells. Working with a long list of celebrities and legendary photographers, has brought Eva to the editorial world's top tier of fashion and beauty. Nicole graduated from the University of Illinois with a Bachelors in Marketing and International Business and a Masters in Business Administration with specialty in Finance and Entrepreneurship. Her education also included a background in biology, chemistry, medicinal chemistry and pharmacognosy.

In 2007, after being exposed to the growing problems of the fledgling industry of eyelash extensions, Nicole set course and led the effort to develop a high quality product line. After 2 years of perfecting the product line, the company was launched in 2009. Nicole’s hard work paid off as the company gained a loyal following of stylists from all around the Globe and its much coveted adhesive is considered to be the best on the market.

In 2011 the company’s flagship Salon Lashe was established in Chicago’s Gold Coast for the purpose of offering high quality eyelash extensions to clients as well as providing a suitable training venue for stylists who want to learn The Lashe Technique.

With a full line of eyelash adhesives and extensions as well as a functioning salon in place, Nicole turned her attention to the launching of eyelash extension courses. It is her goal to properly educate and train as many stylists as she can and to instill in them the same kind of passion and drive that she has.

By 2013, the product line and services expanded to include Nicole's interest in an adhesive formulation for eyebrow extensions. She has put together a team of educators who have taken courses from world renowned brow stylists and have begun teaching brow restoration, shaping and eyebrow extension courses. This new service comes with the reward of helping cancer and alopecia patients and survivors.

Initiating her career in the Big Apple-at Makeup Forever Academy New York City, Jessica Monzalvo learned the tricks of the trade from New York's best working makeup artists. Jessica instantly fell in love with the bright lights of the city, and made it her mission to someday work in theater. Six short months after beginning her career, she found herself walking along the streets of Time Square heading to work an Off Broadway production.  While in NYC, Jessica came across many amazing opportunities such as working The Victoria Secrets Fashion Show and collaborating with numerous photographers.

Fueled by NYC's immeasurable energy she ventured back to Chicago and founded MAKEUP FIX by JEM. MAKEUP FIX by JEM is an educational program geared towards helping new and established artists with their artistry and career in Chicago and Mexico. Aside from educating in Chicago & Mexico, she's continued to expand her network and now counts Vera Wang, Kohls, Telemundo Chicago, LifeTime Movies as clients among many others. Jessica Monzalvo believes that 'beauty is love' and her intense love for the industry will continue to drive her forward.

Jill is an Illinois state-certified freelance media makeup artist, working in and around the Chicago area. Jill has worked with photographers and agencies retained by Sears, Costco, Com Ed, Harris N.A., State Farm Insurance, and many others too numerous to mention.


Jill is the founder/owner (since 2006), and one of the instructors for the Basic, Media, Clinical, Careers, Advanced Media, Airbrushing and Bridal Makeup courses at Make Up First ® School of Makeup Artistry.  Jill is also the owner of the agency, Artists by Make Up First, LLC, which places graduates of the School in full and part time work.  Jill also continues to freelance as a makeup artist/ hair stylist for television, film, print, video, music video, weddings and special events.

Tracy is the Owner/CEO of The Mobile Manicurist, LLC based in Forest, VA. She was working a full-time job at the time she obtained her nail tech license, a few years ago. What she "thought" was going to be a little side business immediately took off by leaps and bounds. She built a FULL clientele in only six weeks and had to quit her full-time job she'd been at for several years. Today, she's the winner of numerous awards including MSN.COM top nail artists. She's been featured in Nails Magazine as well as Nail-pro numerous times over, and received numerous other recognitions. She won first place at the National Nail Tech Convention with her 3D entry piece of "James and the Giant Peach" nails. Recently, she was the third runner up in Season 4 of Nail Top Nail Artist. Amy Oung has nearly 20 years in the nail industry, is a second-generation Vietnamese American nail technician, licensed in both Massachusetts and Rhode Island, and is a frequent contributor to both Nails Magazine and VietSalon Magazine.  Amy pushes herself and has actively competed in the past, placing third place in the U.S. Invitational for gel.  She currently runs a successful nail studio and continues to inspire nail artists around the world as an ORLY Ambassador. Katharin von Gavel is a recognized leader in the pedicure / Foot Care industry both as an educator and a mentor. Katharin has been a featured speaker at industry meetings and trade shows across North America, Asia and Europe. Having studied Dermatology and Paramedical Esthetics in Germany, she received a degree in Foot care and additionally, holds various other degrees.

Lydia was born in Legnica, Poland, a city close to the Czech and German borders.  Her mother was captured in Russia and sent to a German labor camp and her Polish father was a survivor of the Holocaust.  In the late 1960's when there was renewed anti-Semitism in Poland, Lydia's family was forced to flee, first to Italy, ultimately settling in the United States.  She began her career in beauty as a makeup artist, custom-blending cosmetics in a Madison Avenue salon in New York. She received her license in esthetics, and in 1977, opened Klisar, the first day spa in Manhattan. In 1980, she launched the Repêchage treatments and products based on seaweed, opening the new Repêchage Spa de Beauté on Third Ave in 1986, and later in the Galleria building on 57th Street.

 

Sarfati was one of the pioneers in the field of esthetics in the U.S. setting the professional and business standards for the industry. She innovated spa services with the creation of the Facial Bar concept which allows salons and spas to incorporate express facial treatments with instant, visible results. Her skincare method is practiced by top estheticians around the world and is taught in over 200 schools in the US and globally; the Lydia Sarfati Post-Graduate Skin Care Academy located in Secaucus, offers master courses taught by Lydia once a year in addition to the advanced education classes available at the Academy on a monthly basis.

 

She appears nationally and internationally at esthetic trade shows, and attends and conducts overseas conferences in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Central America, and South Africa.
