New Law Requires Domestic Violence Training for the all Cosmetology Licensees

New Law Requires Domestic Violence Training for Select Cosmetology Act  Licensees  Effective January 1, 2017, a new law requires  a one‐hour, one–time Continuing Education (CE) course on Domestic Violence for all cosmetologists, cosmetology teachers,  estheticians, esthetics teachers, hair braiders, hair braiding teachers, nail technicians, and nail technology teachers.

PLEASE NOTE: The CE requirement of this new law will NOT be effective until the promulgation and implementation of Rules.  IDFPR is currently working on the Rules which will then require approval by the Joint Committee on Administrative Rules (JCAR).  The Domestic Violence CE requirement will NOT apply to the September 2017 licensure renewals for cosmetologists and estheticians; however, this requirement will be in effect for the September 2019 licensure renewals for cosmetologists and estheticians. Once a curriculum for the Domestic Violence CE is established and course providers are approved, sufficient time will be afforded for all impacted licensees to come into compliance.  The CE requirement of this law will be effective for the September 2018 licensure renewals for cosmetology teachers and esthetics teachers, and for the October 2018 licensure renewals for nail technicians, nail technology teachers, hair braiders and hair braiding teachers.  Check out the free classes that are provided by Cosmetologists Chicago June through Sept 2019 and at America's Beauty Show, April 18-20, 2020, Chicago.
