]]>To ensure both, the consultation and improving the overall health of the hair is key. One of the biggest problems many clients present with is unruly hair. To begin, determining the root cause and whether your client’s hair is dry or dehydrated is key.
Dry hair comes from external causes like sun, wind, excessive color treatments, or lack of proper home-care. These issues can usually be solved with regular trims and gloss appointments, the addition of deep conditioner treatments both in the salon and at home, turning down the temperature on hot tools and introducing heat protectants while styling.
Dehydrated hair often comes from internal factors like diet or how products enter the hair shaft. No matter the diagnosis, there are several factors clients can include in their daily routine to improve the health of the hair and the look and feel of their strands. Taking a look at the porosity of your client’s hair and recommending a professional treatment is a great first step. From here, suggest incorporating hydration techniques and including mineral and vitamin intake at home.
Always begin any consultation by asking open-ended questions and encourage clients to share every last detail.
From here, you should be able to determine whether they need a trim or a treatment and offer a few suggestions for lifestyle changes they can make for overall improvement.
Shampoo is a necessary part of daily life, it cleanses the scalp, rids hair of build-up and debris and is the key to a voluminous blowout. However, depending on the state of their hair, and how often they shampoo, it may be the culprit when it comes to drying out their hair. If this is the case, recommend to your client to add conditioner to their ends prior to shampooing to create a barrier and concentrate shampoo at the new growth area or where cleansing is needed.
Silk pillowcases are an investment, but they’re essential for improving the quality of both hair and skin. Cotton pillowcases tend to soak up oils and are not as soft as silk, therefore leaving the hair with more tangles.
Depending on the hair type, using ceramic brushes can sometimes cause a great deal of undue stress on strands, especially if they are not being used properly. While they are a great option for adding volume, ceramic brushes often have metal barrels, which can get extremely hot and lead to excessive damage with repeated use.
To add shine and control texture patterns, consider switching to boar bristle or nylon brushes with wooden or cork barrels that won’t overheat and suggest your clients do the same at home.

The Brazilian wax became popular in the 90s with countless pop culture references and women boasting the benefits during bikini season. A Brazilian wax is a hair removal service that gets rid of all of your pubic hair in the genital region. Although some choose to keep a small strip of hair in the shape of a strip, oval or triangle.
A bikini wax only removes hairs from the skin on areas that would be visible when wearing a bikini bottom. The Brazilian wax removes all hairs from your genital regions including hair removal from the pubic bone, perineum and the anus.
While each practitioner will advise differently, there are a few rules to improve your waxing experience.
Everyone will experience a different rate of hair growth. However, in most cases, a Brazilian wax lasts about 3-4 weeks.
Unlike laser or electrolysis, waxing is a temporary hair removal option. It is one of the least irritating forms of hair removal for the skin and often you’ll notice the hair grows back softer and thinner, making grooming in between more manageable.
Depending on the sensitivity of your skin, you can experience redness, bumps, itching or discoloration. Topical treatments specifically designed for the genital region can be applied to cut down on the impact of this.
Yes, it is possible to get waxed while on your period. However, your skin can potentially be more sensitive during this time. If you decide to get a wax while on your period, use a tampon or menstrual cup to ensure there is no blood present during the process.
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, involves the use of a device with tiny needles to create controlled micro-injuries on the skin's surface. It can be done at-home or by a trained expert, with better results usually occurring from the latter. This process stimulates the body's natural healing response, leading to the production of collagen and elastin – a.k.a the building blocks for smooth, firm, and youthful skin.
During a microneedling session, the device creates micro-channels in the skin, triggering the release of growth factors and promoting the formation of new collagen. This not only improves skin texture but also reduces the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, stretch marks and scars.
Microneedling is renowned for its ability to boost collagen production, promoting skin elasticity and firmness. This results in a more youthful and radiant complexion.
Say goodbye to pesky fine lines and wrinkles! Microneedling helps diminish the signs of aging by encouraging the skin to regenerate and renew.
Whether it's acne scars or other blemishes, microneedling can significantly reduce their appearance by stimulating the skin's healing process.
Enlarged pores can be a beauty concern for many. Microneedling helps tighten the skin, reducing pore size and leaving you with a smoother complexion.
While professional treatments are available, there are also at-home devices for those who prefer the convenience of DIY skincare. Professional sessions provide a more intense experience, whereas at-home devices offer a milder approach.
Discover the step-by-step process of a typical microneedling session, from prepping the skin to post-treatment care.
Optimize your results by following a tailored skincare routine post-microneedling. Learn about the products that can enhance the healing process and maximize the benefits.
While microneedling is generally safe, it's essential to be aware of potential side effects. Explore tips on how to manage any redness or mild discomfort.
Microneedling is a transformative skincare technique that has become a beauty staple for those seeking radiant, youthful skin. Whether you opt for professional treatments or at-home devices, incorporating this procedure into your routine can unlock a new level of skin confidence.

Ideal for a variety of curl types, knotless braids are created in sections of a determined size by feeding small amounts of braiding hair into each section as you create the braid. The braid starts at the root and can be extended to any length the client chooses.
Knotless braids are a variation of box braids, but without the knot created at the root. Knotless braids are lighter than box braids, this style can be tailored even to those with fine hair as it puts less stress on the scalp. Kanekalon hair is still added to the braid, but instead of being tied at the root, it is woven in throughout the lengths of the hair, which leads to less stress on the scalp.
Whether you’re creating knotless braids, box braids, faux locs, pop smoke braids, goddess braids or any other variation of protective braid styles, moisturizing and hydrating products are key. Try not to overdo it with products because you need to keep the scalp healthy, but oil treatments are great for the scalp to keep skin and strands from drying out.

Deemed “the new curtain bang,” bottleneck bangs, this hybrid fringe shape blends traditional curtain bang with a fuller straight bang. This creates a fuller section in the middle with wispy touches on the sides. If you’re looking for a way to soften your straight fringe or even grow them out, this is an ideal option for you.
Swoopy, swishy, and feathered, the finished shape gives us hints of Farrah Fawcett fringe without the total commitment. The big difference between curtain fringe and 70s curtain fringe is the length of the bang section. The 70s curtain fringe has a much longer silhouette that could easily be tucked back behind the ears or pulled into a ponytail. The shortest layer falls below the cheekbone for a relaxed finish.
The butterfly bangs rose to popularity as a part of the butterfly cut, but in 2023, we love the fringe as a standalone feature. The big takeaway from this cut is supremely blended layers which is exactly what the bangs are all about. Butterfly bangs are a layered fringe trend that has a feathered finish. The length can be tailored based on your hair type and face shape. The only rule is the softer the blending, the better!
Sexy, sultry and eye-skimming — Bardot bangs are inspired by the iconic Brigitte Bardot and feature a rounded, 60s-worthy finish, full of volume and bounce. Bardot bangs feature a mid-length fringe that falls at eye level and swoops generously to the sides. The big difference between curtain fringe and Bardot bangs is that they have a very defined part and a heavier weight line to create a more dramatic shape.
Whether you’re new to bangs or are looking for a way to update your current fringe situation, always consult with your stylist about the best options for your hair type and texture.
Curtain bangs rose to popularity with the likes of Brigitte Bardot and Farah Fawcett. They are cut slightly shorter in the middle and grow gradually longer as they move away from the center. Curtain bangs are easily able to be parted in the middle and brushed from one side to another to create a wispy, romantic, French-girl feel.
A staple of the 1970s, they have continued to make a huge comeback season after season. Considered the “training wheels” of fringe, they are ideal for anyone that doesn’t want to create a total commitment because curtain bangs allow you to test-drive fringe without sacrificing a ton of length.
In addition to their low-commitment, this shape can also be easily tailored to any face shape or hair type. If your client has a longer or wider forehead, it can help create the illusion of a more petite forehead or if your client has a smaller face, they can be brushed to the side to elongate the forehead. Curtain bangs are also low-maintenance when it comes to upkeep. Unlike straight-across styles or blunt bangs, you won’t need to visit the salon every few weeks for a trim.
While curtain bangs flatter every face shape, they also work on a variety of hair textures and lengths. The key to finding your most flattering look is customizing the length and cut to suit your natural style. Longer layers work well with silky, straight hair and looser waves, while curlier and more textured strands pair best with eye-skimming or shorter fringe.
Any fringe will require a bit of styling and if your client is used to a low-key hair routine, you’ll going to need to show them how to manage their new style. One of the best things about curtain bangs is that they can be worn straight, wavy, or even curly.
Developing a style routine depends on the cut and natural texture. Use a blow dryer and round brush to add volume, add a spritz or two of texturizer to bring out waves, or use fingers and a bit of light-hold hair paste to create piecey texture.

Just like your body needs water, your hair craves hydration too. To cross this resolution off the list, make it a habit to keep your hair adequately moisturized. Invest in a good-quality conditioner and consider incorporating a hydrating hair mask into your routine at least once a week. Remember, well-hydrated hair is less prone to breakage and always looks more vibrant.
If long, luscious locks are on your wish list, regular trims should be part of your routine. To do this, commit to getting a trim every 6-8 weeks. This helps prevent split ends and promotes healthy hair growth. A little snip may seem counterintuitive, but it actually works wonders for the overall health and appearance of your hair by keeping the ends from breaking.
Break out of your hairstyle comfort zone in the new year. Experiment with different hairstyles, colors, or even hair accessories. Whether it's a sleek ponytail, beachy waves, or a vibrant new color, changing up your look can boost your confidence and add excitement to your routine.
Shield your hair from the harsh elements and styling damage by incorporating protective styles into your routine. Braids, twists, buns, and ponytails are excellent options to keep your hair safe and protected. This resolution not only promotes healthier hair but also adds versatility to your styling repertoire.
If you're a fan of heat styling tools, make a resolution to use them mindfully. Invest in high-quality heat protectant products to minimize damage, and try to give your hair a break from styling tools whenever possible.
The connection between nutrition and hair health is undeniable. This year, try to include hair-friendly foods in your diet, such as fruits, vegetables, lean proteins, and foods rich in vitamins and minerals like biotin and omega-3 fatty acids. Over time, you’ll notice how a well-balanced diet contributes to stronger, shinier hair from the inside out.
A healthy scalp is the foundation for beautiful hair, so be sure not to neglect this area in your care routine. Make it a point to exfoliate your scalp regularly to remove product buildup and promote better circulation. Choose a gentle exfoliating scrub or consider incorporating essential oils like tea tree oil for a soothing effect.
As you set your resolutions for the coming year, don't forget to include your hair in the self-care equation. These resolutions are simple yet effective steps towards ensuring your locks are healthy, vibrant, and ready to face whatever the new year brings. Here's to a year of great hair days!
There has been a long-lasting debate in the hairstylist community about whether it is better to cut curly hair wet or dry. In fact, each has their own benefits but your choice should be made on a case by case basis and sometimes, utilize both.
The final finish is what can really seal the deal. When cutting and styling curly hair, you often run into two common pitfalls — product buildup and lack of moisture. To ensure creating the best possible finish for your client, be sure to thoroughly cleanse your client’s hair and scalp with a gentle detoxing shampoo. If cutting hair wet, we suggest applying a light layer of deep conditioner to the hair and rinsing it before you dry. This not only protects the curl pattern during detangling and combing but it also gives you a change to reset the curl pattern with a rinse before styling.
Lastly, it’s all about the products! From cocktailing to layering, curly hair requires a little more finesse than other styles. Consider walking your client through your product application — how much, what, and why — so they walk away with a few new tips and a great appreciation for your services. When drying, choose the method that is closest to your clients’ at-home routine so they are able to recreate the look.
One of the best things any stylist can do is to send clients home with healthy home care habits. More than any other texture, small shifts in routine for wavy, curly and coily textures can change the overall appearance of the shape. This is why any consultation for curly cutting should begin by asking your client what their everyday routine looks like. Ask about how often they wash their hair, what products they use, and if they are willing to make any changes to their routine? These are important to know because if a client tends to blow out her curls and reshape with an iron your approach may be totally different than if a client air-dries or diffuses.
As soon as you get pregnant, you’ll need to start checking your labels because while some ingredients are well known, there are other active ingredients you didn’t even know you should avoid. Sure, there are some things (like canned Tuna) that are OK to have “once in a while” when pregnant, but there are other things like Retinoids that should be completely avoided.
Each person and pregnancy will have different skin effects and skin concerns, so anytime you’re creating a routine, it is best to discuss all ingredients and skin care products with your physician. If there are certain products in your routine that you can no longer use, simply store it for after pregnancy/breastfeeding.
Ok, so you’ve had to stash your Augustinus Bader The Cream, because it does have trace amounts of retinoids — what should you use instead?
Your hormones fluctuate heavily when pregnant, which means hormone related skin issues like melasma can occur. Because most of the traditional treatments are off the table, prevention in all areas will be key. Add a well rounded mineral sunscreen to your routine instead or switch to a Vitamin C serum to help brighten!
If acne has suddenly become an issue, you’ll probably want to stay away from salicylic acid because the jury is still out on its safeness of AHA’s and BHA’s during pregnancy. Instead, try products containing azelaic acid instead — it is neither an AHA or BHA and can be used in small doses to help treat acne.
While fragrances still haven’t been completely OK’d, there’s another reason why you might want to stick to fragrance-free… the smell. During pregnancy your sense of smell will be extremely heightened, which means things that normally smelled wonderful to you can be unfathomable.
Dry skin is another common issue during pregnancy (and certain times of the year) so adding pregnancy-safe oils like Rosehip Oil or moisturizing Hyaluronic Acid can be great ways to add nourishment in a safe manner.
*As always, all of these suggestions should be tailored to your individual needs. Any skincare choices and products should be evaluated with your physician/dermatologist/OB to determine what is safe before, during, and after your pregnancy.

Tatianna's color was previously over-highlighted and had lost dimension. Due to this, her hair was delicate, so we wanted to pay special attention to the health and care of her hair throughout the color process.
To get the look, we low-lighted using Matrix Socolor Sync Pre-Bonded Alkaline Toner in equal part 8P, 8G, and 8WN. Using pivoting pie sections from her part line and a medium weave to create the perfect blend of depth and dimension.
*Pro-tip: To return depth to blondes, be sure to include gold in your formula to avoid muddy/hollow results. When applying your lowlight, alternate leaving the ends out of every other foil to ensure that you maintain brightness in the blonde.
Tatianna had a preexisting haircut that we wanted to strengthen. We cleaned up the perimeter to create a strong graphic shape with her haircut. She has fine hair so we wanted to still encourage a little bit of movement by creating softer face framing that blended into her fringe.
With too much bounce, the length of Tatianna's hair can easily look dated. However, natural-looking volume is essential when creating sleek styles on fine hair.
Start by moisturizing the face, with a fluffy dense brush. Apply all over skin to create a smooth base for your makeup.
FOUNDATION
Choose a R.E.M Beauty shade that matches your skin tone and apply it evenly all over your face using a dense fluffy brush, beauty blender, or your fingertips. Then, blend it well for a seamless finish.
CONCEALER
Apply NARS Creamy Radiant Concealer under your eyes, chin, around the nose and center of the for head. For a great match, choose a color a few shades lighter than your natural tone for a well lit look. Dab it gently with your fingertips or a blending brush for a natural look.
CONTOUR
Apply the Fenty Beauty Cream Contour Stick around the perimeter of your face to frame and contour, using an angled fluffy brush To strategically place the color on your cheek forehead and chin.
SET
Set your skin with a light dust of Laura Mercier Loose Powder. This helps to control shine and make your makeup last longer.
BLUSH/HIGHLIGHTER
Apply Juvia’s Place Blush Volume 4 on the the apple of the cheeks, then add Nude Stix Highlighter in Illumi-Naughty on the higher point of the face nose, chin, cheeks, and forehead.
EYES
First prime your lids using NYX Eye Paint in Coming Out. Then, use a flat firm fluffy brush to blend. Place Belle from the Natasha Denona Retro Glam Eyeshadow Palette just in the crease outward and upward with a fluffy blending brush.
Apply NYX Eye Paint in Fly the Flag just on the lid and in the inner corner of the eye with a flat eyeshadow brush. Be very generous and carefree with it.
Then layer that with Flutter from the Natasha Denona Retro Glam Eyeshadow Palette, with your finger to really pack it on, and to avoid fallouts.
Use the MAC White Liner pencil just on the waterline, and place mascara top and bottom and be very generous.
Apply a full strip of Ardell Wispies 113 to the lash on top and 3 individuals in the bottom to create that flirty butterfly effect. Then, use the Ulta Beauty Micro Felt Tip Liquid Liner to create a dramatic wing out liner.
BROWS
Apply Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Freeze to the brows to keep them in place.

If your cuticles have been a mess lately, you’re not alone. Whether it’s the increase in searches for Russian Manicures, the extra hand washing or the bitter cold that’s causing them to crack, investing in nail care is ideal around this time of year. In addition to regular manicures, these are a few of our favorite tips.
Pushing the cuticle instead of nipping or cutting them is far less invasive on your cuticle and nail bed. This cuts down on dry, peeling cuticles and hangnails.
This one might seem obvious, but outside of the nail salon, how often do you actually apply cuticle oil? Investing in one that smells divine and can sit at your desk is key. Ever so often, take a break from typing and paint a little oil on to revive dry cuticles with nourishing oil.
The cold air can seriously dry out your skin this season and you might not notice until its too late. Whether you’ve got a travel size from your last trip or want to pick up a new tube, keeping a luxurious hand cream in your purse will ensure that you actually use it! Lather on between moments and after each time you wash to keep hands moisturized and nails looking their best.
This manicure isn’t for everyone and is quickly becoming the most hotly debated trend around, but if you’re looking for an ultra clean finish this season, this manicure might be for you. The key detail is to find a manicurist who specializes in the service. Because they are completely removing your cuticle with advanced methods, you’ll need someone who knows what they’re doing to cut down on damage.
Nail lengths are being scaled back this season and so is the nail art. Instead of over the top finishes, many are searching for nail trends that extend their time between appointments. (This is another reason the Russian Manicure is such a hit). We’ll see lunula art, faint lines and nude polishes take center stage this season as we all look for ways to be more low-maintenance.
Burgundy, Pinot or Merlot, whichever wine shade strikes your fancy is bound to be a hit. In addition to other red colored nail polishes, the wine varieties create a more low-key finish while still partaking in the red nail theory.

Some days might require more products or steps than others, but for the most part many of us can benefit from keeping three key products in our skincare routine — cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF.
Then, when it comes to adding in more specialty products, this is the order it should go in:
While this might seem like a lot of steps, to make it easier think about applying products in order from lightest to heaviest to ensure they penetrate properly. The exception for this is a product like Retinol, because it can tend to be very harsh for many skin types, it is best for application and your skin to apply after moisturizer and follow with a face oil if you like.
Other steps you might need to address will have to do with makeup application and removal. Typically when applying makeup, you might want to skip a few of the excessive layers to ensure your makeup application goes on smoothly and stays in place. Alternatively, when removing makeup at night time, this might involve the addition of a micellar water or a double cleanse to ensure you’ve removed all of your makeup before beginning your nighttime routine.
There are a million and a half products on the market to choose from. If you’re really unsure about where to begin, consider booking yourself a facial with a trusted esthetician and asking them about what is best for your skin type. From here, you might go through trial and error as you find products that work. You don’t need the most expensive or trendiest products on the market, simply pay attention to the active and inactive ingredients in each formulation.
Active ingredients are found in all types of skincare products — from face washes to serums, toners and sunscreen. They are often detailed by their potency (usually in percentages), which dictate their impact.
Skincare products usually have a great deal of active and inactive ingredients in their products. In addition to this, your products might also include preservatives to keep them shelf stable. Knowing which work best for your skin type can improve your skin and help you learn what to look out for when choosing new products.
Alpha Hydroxy Acids, also known as AHA’s are common ingredients used in anti-aging skincare. They are usually made up of glycolic acids, lactic acids, or citric acids and can be used to treat signs of sun damage like hyperpigmentation, fine lines, wrinkles or age spots. When using products with AHAs it is imperative to also invest in a sunscreen as a common side effect is sensitivity to the sun.
This active ingredient is usually present in skin cleansers and is commonly used for improving acne-prone skin, blackheads or uneven skin tone. A common beta hydroxy acid, also known as BHA, is salicylic acid. BHAs are usually less irritating than AHAs so they are a great option to provide similar results with less sensitivity.
Ceramides are a naturally occurring fatty acid in the skin and are used to improve hydration of the skin. By using products with ceramides, it can help boost your moisture levels and improve dry skin by improving the skin barrier.
Usually used in conjunction with products containing Vitamin C to help penetration, hyaluronic acid is most commonly used for anti-aging. Often touted as “the fountain of youth,” hyaluronic acid is naturally occurring in the body but depletes over time, which is why adding this to your regimen is key to reversing the signs of aging.
A form of vitamin B3, niacinamide helps build keratin to lead to firmer, healthier skin. It can be used on all skin types to help retain moisture and is proven powerful for those with rosacea, redness, or swelling because of the ability to even skin tone and hydrate the skin.
Retinoids, commonly referred to as retinol, are derived from vitamin A and are commonly used to treat the signs of aging. This does so by improving the look of fine lines and wrinkles, and improving skin tone. While it is a common ingredient, many individuals can experience drying, itching, peeling or other sensitive reactions to this ingredient. It is ideal to speak to a physician before using products with retinoids to ensure they are right for you.
By now, we’ve all heard of skin cycling, but have you heard of the new #haircycling trend making the rounds on TikTok? With over 500K views and counting, this new interest has us all examining our current hair routine. Curious about what hair cycling entails and why it might be excellent for your hair? Keep reading!
The term “Hair Cycling” is a buzzy new trend that has been popularized by users on TikTok. It came about almost by chance after users realized they have subconsciously taken their skin cycling habits and transferred them to their hair care. The act of hair cycling involves adding a detox (or clarifying) shampoo to their routine and cycling in and out various products based on seasonality or their current hair needs.
The goal is to improve the function of your scalp and health of your hair by rotating products. Similar to skin cycling, hair cycling includes rest days where you allow the natural oils of your scalp to condition the hair. With different formulas for different days or concerns you can tailor your haircare based on what you need at the time.
Hair cycling can begin as soon as your next wash day!
Based on where you live, the season and your current hair state, skin cycling can greatly improve the health of your hair. As the season’s change so do our styling habits and environmental stressors, so coming up with a routine that addresses each of these in an individualized way is key to a fabulous finish.
Shaving is the process of removing hair growth as close to the skin as possible. Beard trimming has to do with how you shape the hair as you allow it to grow out. Some men prefer to trim their beards and also shave certain areas of their upper cheeks or necks to create a clean-looking finish.
How often you should trim your beard is loosely determined by the type of facial hair you are wearing. If you have a mustache or goatee, you may need to touch up the length and edges more often than a full beard. Normally, facial hair should be touched up every 1-3 days based on the rate of hair growth.
There are two options when it comes to beard trimming. You can trim your beard at home or ask your barber or stylist to touch it up for you. If you a high-maintenance facial hair, consider getting it shaped by your barber and learning how to care for it in-between at home.
Usually, barbers use a wide-tooth beard comb to comb, shape, and trim your beard. They can free-hand the shape and length with a buzzer or use guards to ensure the right length.
At home, it is best to use a trimmer with guards. Start by washing your beard and combing the hair with a fine tooth comb to remove any knots. Then working in consistent rows, run the trimmer first against, and then in the direction of hair growth to make sure you are capturing the various directions. This may need to be repeated a few times. Continue to comb your beard as you trim, and once finished, apply a beard oil or conditioner to add shine and control to the hair. If needed, you might need to use small scissors or a buzzer around the lip area to clean up the edges.
Once your shape and length are achieved, be sure to wash and moisturize your beard frequently. Skincare with a beard is essential to ensure the underlying skin doesn’t become dry or damaged. Additionally, conditioning the hair as you would the hair on your head is key to a shiny, healthy finish.
You might be thinking why copper? Copper hair colors always seem to trend around the fall season and whether it started with the turning of the leaves or the demand for pumpkin spice latte’s, copper is here to stay. Copper hair colors have been trending season after season, and for good reason. They are a versatile way to add warmth and dimension to your hair color without having to add too much depth. However, as new variations get unveiled each season it can be hard to know which shade is right for you.
In the end, the best way to choose the right copper hair color for you is by chatting with your hairstylist and trying out a variety of shades to find one that you love.
Over time, hard water, products, and environmental debris cause an excess of build-up on the scalp and strands. Exfoliation — either with a scalp scrub or a clarifying treatment — is one of the best ways to treat this. By removing buildup, you allow the treatments and products that follow to truly penetrate the skin and hair shaft. This leads to an invigorated scalp and more moisturized results.
The symptoms of a dry scalp and dandruff are similar — you’ll notice itchiness, dry skin, and flaking. The big difference is that a dry scalp is caused by a lack of moisture, while dandruff is caused by inflammation that often triggers an overgrowth of fungus.
Each day our scalp is susceptible to irritants and routines that can dry it and cause discomfort. If you want to prevent a dry scalp, a few changes to your daily life can improve your function.
Be mindful of the skin underneath your hair and, if necessary, speak with a doctor or dermatologist about your symptoms. You could have an underlying issue that needs medical treatment.

Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin C, Niacinamide, Peptides — each season we’re exposed to brand new terms and the latest active ingredients for our skin. One of the tried-and-true ingredients that has been talked about for decades is Retinol, but how much do we know about this ingredient and if it’s right for our skin? We investigate.
Retinol is a type of retinoid that is made up from a derivative of Vitamin A. It is an extremely powerful ingredient that is usually mixed into a cream in very small amounts to be applied to your skin. The application method and impact will be different for each person based on their skin type and desired results.
Dermatologists have long been fan’s of this active ingredient for the ability to improve the appearance of your skin in the following ways:
Like any active ingredient, Retinol might not be the best for everyone’s skin. If you have sensitive or easily get irritated, retinol could be too harsh for your skin type.
While there are some products sold over the counter (or on the internet) that include Retinol, if you’re just beginning it is best to consult your Dermatologist and consider getting a prescription from them.
When you begin using retinol, you’ll want to start off gradually by applying it as the last step in your skincare routine. Once you’re sure your skin can handle it, you can increase the frequency over time. Whenever using retinol, it imperative to start with low concentrations and always use SPF throughout the day. If irritation occurs, you should immediately stop using it. Again, as with any new treatment, always consult your Dermatologist first to learn of any contraindications or risk factors.
The look is drawn from classic shapes that were popular in the 70s. So it is no wonder why with this era being popularized in fashion that this hairstyle would be trending as well. The look is characterized by a shorter length in the middle which gently gets longer as you blend them out to the sides. Curtain bangs can easily be parted in the middle or brushed to a single side to open the face and are known for their soft, romantic finish.
This style is perfect for the person who is looking to make a change without a great deal of commitment. Because of their soft shape and ability to easily be blended, they can be hidden with styling or blended for a quick and easy grow out. Apart from this, the other reason why we’ve seen a rise in this trend is because they can be tailored to every face shape and hair type. Stylists can easily tailor this look to ensure minimal upkeep with maximum effect. When it comes to bang trims — they will probably need to be every 4-6 weeks as compared with the usual 1-2 for higher maintenance styles like blunt bangs.
Just like any hair cut, fringe should be tailored to an individual’s hair texture for best results. Similar to the way that a stylist may cut a client’s hair dry versus wet for highly curly or coiled hair types, this should be taken into account with curtain bangs as well. Unless you know they’ll be wearing a curly fringe, it is usually best to blow dry the bang area smooth and then determine length and shape. Always be mindful of how the hair will be worn — natural waves, curls or styled smooth — before committing to a length and remind them its always easier to go shorter at a later date!
Although curtain fringe is fairly low-key, getting used to styling this new length can take some getting used to. They great thing about them is their ability to be worn with any finish you client likes. As they develop new styling habits for your ‘do recommend the best blow-dry tips and product picks based on their individual style and ease of upkeep. Let them play around with the new shape and offer a few different options of how best to style curtain bangs in a pinch.
Milky Nails are a fun twist on a classic neutral mani trend. They are clean and simple, but can be updated in a variety of fun finishes and details. The trend usually uses an opaque white, creamy nude or subtle blush tone to enhance your nail with a slightly more than sheer finish. The look is generally created by prepping the nail and then applying a few very thin coats of sheer or opaque nail polish, followed by a high-gloss top coat to create a polished finish.
Part of the reason why the milky nail trend has become so popular is because of its ability to be customized. Everything from skin tone to nail length and nail design should be taken into account when finding your finished look. From traditional milky nails to their variations, these are some of the top designs for the upcoming season!
Touted by JLO as one of her go-to nail designs, this look uses a subtle French tip to set the nail apart. The trick to getting this look is by adding the French tip first — either in a slightly contrasted tone or the same color polish — and then adding the final coats of opaque polish after. This creates a softer transition and more subtle French tip feel.
This trend uses a milky base and adds flowers or motifs either below of above the milky finish to create a dreamy design. The traditional versions utilize flowers to make it look like an actual milk bath with floating flowers, while others take the concept and run with it for an ethereal feel.
This look is basically just milky nails but with a crisper white shade. Meant to look like actual clouds, they are slightly more opaque and but still feature the same high-gloss finish.
This trend takes minimal nail art and makes it wearable for almost anyone with the ability to customize tone. Additionally, it can be worn on any nail shape — natural or not — and still be just as fabulous. Add a floral flair or a subtle tip, the choice is ultimately up to you!
It might come down to first understanding your texture type when it comes to finding the best hair cut, color process, styling habits, or products. The question is — do you know your curl type?
The curl pattern or curl type chart was created to understand various texture patterns and classified using numbers 1-4 and letters A-C. For the most part, Type 1 is straight, Type 2 is wavy, Type 3 is curly, and Type 4 is coily. The subtypes of A to C coincide with the width or diameter of the wave, curl, or coil pattern. A’s have a wider pattern size, B’s medium, and C’s are the smallest of the three subtypes.
Type one refers to straight hair without curls, which results in straight hair. This hair type can resist curls or waves and face challenges when using hot tools to create the desired finish.
This type includes wavy hair with a minimal curl pattern. You have 2A, 2B, and 2C hair types within this category.
With type 2 hair, frizz is the biggest concern, so moisturizing products are ideal. Leave-in conditioners and wave-defining products can help enhance definition while ensuring enough hydration in the hair.
This type includes curly hair, ranging in diameter from loose to tight curls, and often experiences some degree of frizz.
For these curl types, look for hydrating, moisturizing, or creamy products to create a healthy, shiny, and defined finish.
Type 4 represents coily hair. This texture most often needs a healthy amount of hydration during washing and styling to prevent breakage and dryness.
There are infinite finishes within each type and pattern — this individuality makes textured hair unique. For best results, look at ingredients, test products, and chat with your hairstylists about best practices to enhance your style.

]]>While everyone’s routine will be slightly different, aim to clean your makeup brushes every 7 to 10 days. I you use them daily, aim to do this more often. The reason for this frequency is to prevent the buildup of bacteria and makeup residue. When this happens it can clog the bristles and irritate your skin.
If this is too challenging to fit into your morning routine, consider adding it to your nighttime cleansing ritual about once a week. These steps can help you keep your makeup brushes and your skin clean and healthy.
